my Canon Digital Ixus i does the same thing. i connect it to the computer and it works again. it only happened about twice but it still works. it is a lovely camera though.
It looks like needs repair. Too bad that the cost of it would probably higher than buying a new one and you still have an old camera with no warranty.
If you are on a limited budger go for a CAnon A590 is which sells for around 125 dollars or add 50 bucks and go for slimmer models.
