What is the difference between powershot and ixus series of canon digital cameras?

my answer.. IXUS and PowerShorts are 2 diffrent catagory. IXUS is ment for compact and convinient for travelling while Powershots are ment for slightly advanced function. Both of them produce good quality. What is best for you is up to your eveluation. Here’s a tip, try to get the latest model.
The IXUS line is the exact same camera as the Powershot line. The numbers may be off a little (IXUS 800=Powershot SD700 and IXUS 850= Powershot SD800) but they are the same camera. If it says IXUS, it was manufactured in Europe and therefore its warranty is only good in Europe. The same for the IXY line, which is manufactured in Japan. That’s how Canon identifies where it was manufactured.
I personally prefer the A710 because you can set your shutter and aperture values. If you don’t want to mess around with that, you might want to go for the IXUS 850 (Powershot SD800) because it has more creative scenes.
